Northern Thai Missionary

More Northern Thai Missions News….

During 1975 while I was still working in Potchefstroom South Africa, God led me to start supporting refugee children from Laos who lived in Thailand. This is where God’s vision for me for full time ministry in Thailand was birthed. This calling of God on my life resulted that I resigned my work and joined YWAM in 1989 for the necessary training to become a full time missionary. I came to Thailand for the first time in December 1995 on a YWAM outreach and since then I have been involved here. I am so grateful to God for my home church, the Dutch Reform Church Elarduspark, and many private supporters who stood with me all these years and made it possible for me to serve God in Thailand for the past 14 years.

My strategy up to now is to bring the Thai Christian and the Thai non-Christian together through English Evangelistic teaching and to involve short term outreach teams in this ministry so that the unsaved Thais can hear the gospel, be saved and become part of a Thai Church. Also to serve the Thai Church according to its needs in seeing Churches being planted. This includes helping them with discipleship and involving training teams. Thais normally do not easily respond to the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The successful salvation testimonies have shown that it takes time and patience through relationship to see a break through in their lives. Therefore you won’t see churches or cell groups being started over night. It takes time and a lot of intercession to see some fruit on your ministry. Currently, I am working under The Centre Asian Outreach Foundation here in Chiang Mai. They apply for my annual work permit and visa that allows me to stay and work in the country.

“ Now to him who is able to establish you by my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all nations might believe and obey him.”

– Romans 16:25,26

In the Northern Thai society, Thai students are the most receptive for the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Centre’s student ministry started in 1994 and quite a lot of students have come to faith in Christ through this ministry and are serving God full time. Being part of this ministry is a wonderful experience. Having the opportunity to share the gospel with students in the class room is sometimes a divine appointment arranged by God. Short term outreach teams also have a major influence on the students lives. Seeing them coming to salvation, being discipled, becoming members of a Thai Church and reaching to their own people is an experience you will never forget.

Reaching out to Thai school children with the gospel is much more difficult due to the fact that they are still under the authority of their parents and the school teachers. However, serving as an English teacher and involving short term English evangelistic teams in schools opens the door for evangelical projects for example Christmas programs where they can hear the story of Jesus. English Christian songs can also be taught to children. Children can be invited to attend church projects where they hear the gospel and come to salvation. The most rewarding aspect is when children become members of the children’s church. Click link for more information about our ministry involvement among the Northern Thais here…..
